Power and Relationships

All human relationships are rooted in power. Power is the fundamental energy that lies in the interpersonal space between people. On a neuro-psycho-social level we are wired to recognize power dimensions in other human beings in relation to ourselves. We are instantly able to energetically discern how powerful we are in relation to another physically, emotionally, mentally. We create socially constructed structures which identify artefacts of power i.e. wealth, beauty, sexual appeal, fame, intellect, roles.

Relationship are defined by the nature of power they have consciously or unconsciously decided to use.  Power in relationships has been socially and culturally constructed across time and cultures. One of the modes on which power has been distributed for centuries is based on gender roles.
